Payslip – what does it say?

4th March 2019

The crackdown on NMW goes on and now HMRC want us to increase the information passed to employees in order to arm them for battle. So we have new legislation from April 2019 that says payslips must show hours and rates for those employees whose pay varies according to the number of hours worked.

This is really all about contracts of employment rather than pay so check what the contract says. If you are quoting an hourly rate – pay an hourly rate and show it on the slip. If you are quoting a salary (even if it is derived from an hourly rate) you can stand down on this one.

Keep us up-to-date

We just ♥ it when you keep us up-to-date with what’s going on in your business but here is your reminder just in case you need a nudge, tell us when:

  • You promote someone to director;
  • You award pay increases;
  • An employee leaves or joins;
  • An employee becomes pregnant / gets sick / moves house / gets married / gets divorced / is widowed, and
  • Employee changes bank account.
